Also, at lunch a rather plucky pheasant decided to visit the car parking area where she wandered through the field for about 15 minutes, stopping for a little sleep at one point and generally being ignored by most people and dogs - especially Dave and Darren who appeared to be enjoying a rather nice Fortnum & Mason pick nick hamper don`t you know !
The John Jenkins Trophy

At this months training day the John Jenkins Memorial Trophy was awarded to Russ Hicks & Cooper. The trophy is awarded by the committee to the dog and handler that has shown most improvement in the past year.

August Bank Holiday Monday saw a very wet (it rained ALL day!) Bracco Italiano HPR Working Test in Balcombe, Sussex.
Even though the weather didn`t play ball the SW Branch were out in force with John Parnham (& Mrs Parnham!), Graham Jack, Bob Turnbull, Julie Jones, Dave Burden, Steve Pudney, Russ & Mandy Hicks, Kim Paris, Colin & Doreen Hailstone all turning out (please email in if your name isn`t included). Fortunes were mixed and across the board all classes had lows and highs, all due to the weather. Generally no wind, definitely always raining and very little scent (it was remarked upon).
The Bracco Club put on a great day but sadly no photo`s at the moment as there wasn`t a dry camera in sight !!
Tail Injury Survey by John Dalton and Professor Michael Thrusfield
During the 2014-15 Shooting Season a survey relating to tail injuries sustained by dogs of all breeds working in the shooting field will be conducted. Help is requested from owners of working dogs (i.e. HPR`s, beating, picking-up or gamekeepers' dogs) to take part in the survey. The information collected will be scientifically analysed with the goal of improving an understanding of the nature of injuries and the factors that predispose working dogs to them.
The survey will be conducted by e-mail and in strict confidence. All that is initially required to register is to send an e-mail headed "Tails 2014" with your name and details of your dog so that your dog can be included in the survey.

On 19th June our Chairman Bob Sparks and `A` panel HPR judge Sheila Kuban assessed the students resulting in Working Gundog certificates for Joan Turnbull with Tess, Kim Parrish with Bentley and Lisa Bell with Molly!
The course was extremely popular and we hope to run a second course later in the year.
